About Garrett Clayton

Garrett Clayton is an accomplished attorney who grew up in Houston, Texas. Garrett earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University and a law degree from St. Mary’s Law School in San Antonio where he was awarded a partial academic scholarship, Mock Trial Best Speaker Award and in his third year the Marinist award for helping the needy via the school’s criminal defense clinic. “It was at this time I realized that the individuals who truly need the most help are the ones that cannot afford the services of a qualified attorney.” As an alumni now, Garrett continues to take an active role in St. Mary’s Law as an underwriter for the Innsbruck Scholarship.

After taking and passing the Texas Bar Exam Garrett moved back to Houston and married Katie Cappadonna Clayton. “2006 was a very memorable year for me…I finished my stint at academia, started my family and got into the mortgage industry at probably the worse time in history.”

Upon returning to Houston, Garrett’s main focus became AmCap Mortgage,Ltd. As CEO he has managed to grow AmCap to over 800 employees with licenses in 36 states, which has helped him earn the Houston Business Journal Award of FAST 100 three years in a row, as one of the fastest growing Houston-based businesses.

However, the award Garrett appreciates the most is that for the last eight years AmCap has earned the prestigious Top Workplace Award from The Houston Chronicle based on surveys from his own employees. As Garrett has transitioned from a rookie to veteran in the mortgage industry he has taken the time to get fully involved in the industry, by serving as a board member of the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association and helping to raise money for the TMBA PAC. Employees are encouraged to also educate themselves by joining the Advocacy Army, a mortgage organization that seeks to influence the state legislative agenda on topics that promote fair and ethical lending practices for the mortgage industry and their customers.

In addition to the mortgage industry, Garrett is an active investor in several real estate related companies. “From lead generation to loan servicing and everything in between the common goal of our companies is to provide an unparalleled user experience with a sincere focus on customer service at all levels.”

In his free time, Garrett can always be found spending time with his family. They enjoy attending sporting events, traveling and collecting art. The Claytons are also active members of their hometown church, ChristBridge Fellowship where Garrett heads the church’s finance ministry. Additionally, Garrett, along with his family and employees, seek to give back to the surrounding community by donating to Habitat for Humanity, Home Place of Texas, Tomball Emergency Assistance Ministries, Folds of Honor, Reach Unlimited and Camp Hope.
