ABOUT
P. Garrett Clayton
P. Garrett Clayton is an accomplished attorney who grew up in Houston, Texas. He earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU) and a law degree from St. Mary’s Law School in San Antonio. As an alumnus, Garrett continues to actively support St. Mary’s Law through his role as an underwriter for the Innsbruck Scholarship.
After passing the Texas Bar Exam, Garrett returned to Houston and married Katie Clayton. Reflecting on 2006, he notes,
“It was a very memorable year for me… I finished my stint in academia, started my family, and entered the mortgage industry at probably the worst time in history.”
Back in Houston, Garrett’s primary focus became AmCap Mortgage, Ltd. As CEO, he expanded AmCap to over 1,200 employees and led his sales team in helping more than 100,000 borrowers achieve the American Dream. This achievement earned him the Houston Business Journal Award of FAST 100 for three consecutive years, recognizing AmCap as one of the fastest-growing businesses in Houston. Garrett is most proud of AmCap’s recognition as a Top Workplace by The Houston Chronicle for 13 consecutive years, an honor based on surveys from his employees.
Beyond the mortgage industry, Garrett is an active investor and shareholder in various real estate ventures.
“From asset based lending to ground up construction to neighborhood development we are very active in all aspects of housing and real estate development. I find great satisfaction in helping as many people achieve the dream of home ownership as possible.”
In his free time, Garrett enjoys spending time with Katie and their two daughters. They often attend sporting events, golfing, traveling, and collecting art. Garrett, along with his family and employees, is committed to giving back to the community by supporting organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Home Place of Texas, Tomball Emergency Assistance Ministries, Folds of Honor, and Kid’s Meals, Inc.
